REHEARSAL

An old conductor walks to a music stand on a cliff and conducts the sea. The wind answers. The waves keep time. The starlings bend to his baton. Then a storm comes that he did not ask for, and he conducts that too. When it passes, he bows to the empty cliff. It was never empty.
